How to Save Instagram Reels in Full HD
Instagram lets you save a Reel inside the app, but that is a bookmark, not a file. The video still lives on Instagram, and if the creator deletes it or their account goes private, your saved Reel is gone. Saving the actual file in full HD is how you keep the ones that matter: your own posts, the workout you follow every morning, the recipe you keep cooking from. Tomitingo does that job from the browser, no app needed.
What full HD means here
Reels are usually uploaded at 1080p, and "full HD" is that same 1080p. When you paste a Reel link into Tomitingo, the tool fetches the best version Instagram serves, so the file you get matches what you watched. It cannot go higher than the original. A Reel uploaded in lower quality stays lower quality, and no downloader can invent detail that was never there.
The steps
- Open the Reel and tap the share icon, the paper-plane arrow.
- Tap "Copy link". (On a computer, just copy the address from the browser bar while the Reel is open.)
- Go to tomitingo.com in your browser and paste the link into the box.
- Let the tool fetch the video, then pick the highest quality MP4 offered.
- Save. The Reel lands in your gallery or photos app on a phone, or your downloads folder on a computer.
If you are saving several of your own Reels as a backup, work through them one at a time and rename the files as you go. A month from now, "reel-14.mp4" tells you nothing, and "choc-cake-reel.mp4" tells you everything. The download page has the same steps in short form if you want them open in another tab while you work.
Public accounts only
This is the rule that decides almost every success and failure: the Reel must be public. If the account is private, Instagram only shows the video to approved followers, and Tomitingo has no way in. It will not ask for your login, and you should never give your login to a site that does. Public Reel from a public account, that is the combination that downloads. Everything else in this post assumes that is what you have.
When a Reel will not load
Work through this list before giving up. It fixes most failures.
Check the link opens. Paste it into a private or incognito browser window where you are not logged in. If the Reel does not play there, it is not public, or it has been deleted or restricted in your region.
Copy the link again, cleanly. Links copied from shares inside other apps sometimes pick up extra tracking text. Go back to Instagram, use the share button, and copy fresh.
Try again in a few minutes. Instagram occasionally rate-limits heavy fetching. A short wait and one more attempt often goes through.
Check your storage. A long Reel in HD can be a few hundred megabytes. A full phone refuses the save and the error looks like the tool's fault when it is not.
Still stuck after all that? The Reel is most likely region-locked or age-restricted, and those sit behind the same wall as private posts. Our homepage guide explains how that public-only limit applies across every platform Tomitingo supports.
Whose Reels should you save?
Yours, freely and as often as you like. Keeping a local backup of everything you post is just good sense, since accounts get hacked and posts get removed. For other people's Reels, think personal viewing: the technique tutorial you practise along with, the recipe you cook from. Downloading is not republishing. Posting someone else's Reel to your own account as if you made it crosses the line, with or without a download tool, and our disclaimer is blunt about that. Watch it, learn from it, credit the creator if you ever share the link.
The habit worth building
If you post Reels yourself, get into a rhythm: post, copy the link, save the HD file, rename it, done. Two minutes a post, and you own a clean copy of everything you have made, whatever happens to the account. That is the best use of a tool like this, and it is the reason the full HD option exists.
